The Historic Webb Block
A designated City of Berkeley Landmark (c. 1905) at the iconic corner of Ashby and Adeline in the historic Lorin District. Step into history, warmth, and hospitality.
Good Food. Good Coffee. Good Company.
Café Adeline is born out of a love for Mediterranean hospitality, timeless neighborhood spaces, and honest, scratch-made food. Situated in the historic Webb Block building at 1999 Ashby Avenue, our cafe offers a peaceful haven where morning rituals are savored and community gathers.
Whether you are sitting down for our signature Çılbır (Turkish poached eggs with garlicky whipped yogurt and brown Aleppo pepper butter), a hot pressed panini on artisan bread, or enjoying a traditional Turkish coffee brewed in antique porcelain, we treat every guest like family.
Specialty Coffee by Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters
At Café Adeline, we are proud to partner with Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters, one of Northern California's most distinguished specialty roasters.
Founded with the spirit of New Zealand’s legendary cafe culture, Chocolate Fish sources beans directly from passionate farm partners in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Colombia, Honduras, and El Salvador. By roasting light-to-medium to preserve natural sweetness and fruit acidity rather than bitterness, their coffees harmonize gracefully with both milk and espresso.
Direct-Trade Partnerships
Personal relationships with origin farmers, ensuring sustainable wages and exclusive access to award-winning micro-lots.
Peak Freshness
Beans roasted right in Sacramento within 12 months of harvest, delivered fresh every week to our espresso bar.
The Historic Webb Block
Café Adeline is honored to call the landmark Webb Block building at 1999 Ashby Avenue our home. Constructed in 1905 at the pivotal junction of Ashby Avenue and Adeline Street, the Webb Block stands as an architectural anchor of the historic Lorin District.
Originally built during South Berkeley's turn-of-the-century streetcar boom, this Mission Revival-style structure was once home to Caldecott’s Pharmacy, operated by Thomas E. Caldecott—who would later become Berkeley's Mayor and the namesake of the Caldecott Tunnel. Over the decades, it has housed community hubs, antique shops, and local artisans.
Today, Café Adeline breathes fresh warmth and energy into these historic walls. With preserved high ceilings, rich green wainscoting, chevron oak floors, and brass fixtures, we celebrate Berkeley’s architectural legacy every morning.
